Understanding Scar Revision & Reconstructive Surgery
Scar revision aims to improve how a scar looks, feels, and moves—restoring both form and function. Depending on the problem, treatment may include precise excision, Z-plasty/W-plasty to break up straight lines and release scar banding, dermabrasion or laser blending, and medical therapies (silicone, steroid or 5-FU injections, pressure therapy). We also address specific concerns: earlobe repair for torn or stretched piercings (including gauges) with discreet closure and planned re-piercing; keloid removal with recurrence-prevention strategies tailored to your skin type; and nasal trauma deformity correction to refine the profile and improve airflow when the septum or valves are involved. Results aim for better camouflage, softer texture, and easier movement—recognizing that revision improves a scar; it doesn’t erase it.
Reconstructive work after skin cancer or injury is planned to blend with natural contours and tension lines. Following Mohs surgery, we use local tissue rearrangement (flaps) or skin grafts to restore normal shape and shadow—common sites include the nose, lip, and ear—and, when needed, cartilage support to maintain structure and function. Most procedures are outpatient with focused aftercare; timelines vary, but swelling settles over weeks while scars mature up to 12–18 months. Your plan is individualized to your goals, anatomy, and skin biology—so the final result looks natural and helps you feel confident in the mirror.
